What is Animal Reiki and how is it different from Human Reiki?
These are two questions that I often hear from my clients. Let’s talk about Human Reiki first. The meaning of Reiki, as you may recall, is universal life force energy. Reiki is safe, gentle, and noninvasive.
For Human Reiki, after a brief discussion with the client, the Reiki practitioner connects either in person or at a distance and using gentle hand movements guides the flow of energy throughout the body to promote the body’s natural ability to heal itself. The practitioner may or may not feel the need to place their hands on certain parts of the body, with the client’s permission.
I studied Kathleen Prasad’s The Let Animals Lead® method of Animal Reiki. This form of Reiki is very passive and gentle as it is more “meditative” rather than “hands on”. Every session is started with an intention to offer the animal healing energy with no expectation on the outcome.
The amount of energy the animal requires, accepts and is comfortable with is totally up to them, even if that is no energy at all. The practitioner provides a safe meditative space to offer Reiki and invites the animal into the space. It is not necessary for the animal to be in the same room or for them to sit or lay down to receive the benefits of Reiki. It is totally up to the animal whether they choose to enter the energic circle or not.
In “The Let Animals Lead® '' method, the animal is not touched by the Practitioner’s hands unless they indicate that is what they want. Animals will always show exactly where they want Reiki; a dog putting their paw on the practitioner’s hand during a treatment as an example. This meditative space is held until the Practitioner feels the energy dissipate. Sessions usually last anywhere for 30 to 60 minutes depending on the animal and their needs.
It is important to empathize, the goal of an Animal Reiki session is to be present, to provide a safe meditative Reiki space for the animal to step into and accept as much or as little Reiki energy as they wish. The animal is viewed as a whole and not what is wrong with them or what diseases or issues they have.
If you would like more information or you would like to book an Animal Reiki session, I would love to connect with you.
